Hide Scripture In Your Heart, Psalms 119:111

This last simple way of honouring our temples correlates to number four, which if you haven’t read it already, you can read it here.

Number four is all about spending time away from screens, honouring our temples by spending time with God or doing other things to fulfill us.

The verse that is the theme for this blog post is:

The psalmist in Psalms 119:11 is telling us to hide Scripture in our hearts so that when we are tempted to sin, we can remind ourselves of the truth God brings us in his Word, and ultimately strengthen ourselves to not sin against Him.

The word “hidden” in original Hebrew means to hide something away as you would a great treasure. Keeping this in mind, God is telling us to hide His precious and truthful words in our hearts. His words are great treasures to be hidden but not forgotten!

We are all in a battle against sin. Therefore to combat sin, we must hide God’s treasured words in our hearts. But how do we do this? And how does this relate to our temples?

To hide Scripture in your heart, I suggest that you begin with one verse a week. This could be any verse. From a verse in Genesis or to a verse in Revelations, ha! I choose scriptures that have a meaning that will remind me to step away from sin, especially. A verse that is in my heart this week is:

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians 10:31

This verse reminds me that whatever I do, it should glorify God. If I’m reading a book, it should glorify God. If I’m tidying my room, it should glorify God. If I’m going out with my friends, it should glorify God. It reminds me that even the small things matter to God, and he over anyone doesn’t want us to sin.

Now to answer the question: How does this honour temples, it’s simple! If we are filling our hearts with Scripture, how does that not honour our temples? Our bodies; our temples are to be honoured to God for he gave them to us. And if Scripture is from God, then why wouldn’t we hide His beautiful words in our hearts?
